Hair with black highlights?

I have dark brown hair that has some diminishing darker blonde highlights. Certainly a lot of root showing. I want to try to completely get rid of the highlights I have now and instead put some black highlights in my hair. I almost contemplated dying all of my hair black. I am going for a darker edge in my style right now, certainly gothic in some ways. I am hoping this will look good, so I will certainly try something that will wash out first just to see what it looks like. But I was wondering if anyone had any ideas as to what I should do to get rid of the diminishing highlights I have right now, and also if anyone had any recommendations for a good washout black highlight treatment? I don't wanna spend a lot of money by going to the salon, but I also want it to look good.

My hair is naturally strawberry blonde but I used to dye it medium brown and put black highlights in it. It looked really good. I just didn't make the highlights that thick. You could try dying all of your hair with a permanent shade that's the same as your base color to cover the blonde highlights. Wait about a week or so before trying the black highlights. You should Try Clairol Natural Instincts. It washes out in a few weeks. Then if you like it, try a permanent dye. Good luck!

dont go black... black will look somewhat weird and it will look like your hair color and silly when your hair starts to grow back...instead look at hair extensions that clip in your hair so you can remove them when you want and they wont look totally strange and you can also keep reusing them if you want

Black tends to look unnatural. I have black eyebrows and lashes and dark brown hair and thought black hair was a good idea and I just looked angry all the time...

If you want to go dark, go with the darkest brown you can find, maybe with red red highlights.

Doing a reversal low-light will defiantly make the highlights you now have much less noticeable...but nothing besides dying your entire hair black with totally get rid of them....I have done many things with my friends hair...including...black underneath and red on top...frosted blond hair with black tips at the ends...chunk lights and your average pull it through the cap and frost...I will give you this advice....black,even with the semi permanent or "wash out" versions, will stay in your hair for a very long time...it has a lot of pigment....go ahead and try new things...you only live once....I have been trying different cuts and colors for years...and have always enjoyed expressing myself during the different seasons of my life....God bless
