What happens to hair highlights as they grow out?

I got my strawberry blonde hair highlighted with light blonde today...the lady did a nice job, but she put more blonde than what I really wanted. I can live with it, but I don't really want to keep this same design time and time again. Will the bleach or whatever be less white-blonde after time? Will it look crappy to let the highlights grow all the way out without ever getting them redone or trimmed off (I'm letting short hair grow out) ? I've never had highlights before, can ya tell!?!?

Don't live with it. Ask your stylist to do a tint back on some of the blond.

Yes the highlights will look "crappy" if let grow out w/o trimming or redoing. When you are "ready" for a retouch you need to decide if you want a retouch or a tint back.

The highlights will not look less white unless you are in an area with water that leaves rust deposits in hair. The lightened pieces of hair will continue to lighten as does the virgin hair due to chemicals in our water and exposure to sunlight.

usually highlights do grow out you will notice the lighter hair closer to the end after a while and i dont know what u used to highlight but my blonde highlights usually lighten up after a couple of weeks or so they do not look as bright.

it will look bad to let it just grow out and never fix or trim it off but if i were you, the next time i went to get it done again i would just have the blonde highlights put on a bit darker...as for fading out over time? after washing your hair a few times your hair color will fade
