Why do some women get highlights in their hair?

I have noticed that a lot of women here in New York City get highlights in their hair.

Particularly Latina women with black or brown hair - typically, they get blonde, chesnut or auburn highlights - but I have also seen red highlights too.

Why do you think these women get their hair highlighted?

Women get highlights in their hair for different reasons. Some people get them to flatter and highlight their skintone, some get them because they like a particular color and want it in their hair, some women get highlights because they want to do something different to their hair without completely covering it in hair dye. The reasons are numerous. I think it's a good look if the color isn't drastically different from their natural one. I like highlights that are more subtle. I used to highlight my hair, but I let them grow out. Alot of people seem to be getting them nowadays, and I wanted to do something a bit different. I'm back to my natural black hair now.

I think it is okay for any woman to get highlights in their hair...HOWEVER...if they are latina or black.... it doesn't need to be a lot of blond highlights...just a hint.

If they are caucasion and dark hair, same rule applies.

The only women that should get a head full of blond highlights are those that were blond naturally as a child, and it's a dark blond now.

When dark women go to blond, it washes them out big time. NO clue why they would do that. Embrace having dark hair. Having blonde hair is expensive and a pain!

The reason girls get highlights is because they get sick of the color of their hair so they just add a little color to get a different effect. They also don't just want the boring one color in their hair. I honestly don't like the look i like the natural hair color but a lot of girls don't like their hair color so they change it.
